Exercise Epiphany

A couple months back I ended up trying a program called BodyByVi. I was pretty stoked to start doing it to lose the extra pounds I have gained from when I was doing security. It was supposed to be a two a day meal replacement shake program. I ended up trying it out a couple weeks and thought I was doing pretty well. However a after the couple of weeks had passed, I began to feel like I wasn't making as much progress as I should be. I had my last weigh-in on a Thursday and was disappointed to see that I had not only gained everything I had lost, but also a couple more pounds.

So I had a pity-party that whole day and then I came to an epiphany. If I wanted to lose weight, it wasn't going to come off easily. I couldn't just drink two shakes and then sit on my butt all day. To get to the goal weight I wanted I would have to work hard and push myself even when I didn't feel like it. So that's when I began running at night. I started out slow since I've never been a big exerciser, and now I have been able to get up to two miles a night. I am currently on a November 50 mile challenge. I have to run, walk, or bike 50 miles in the month of November. As of today I have done 30 miles!

******UPDATE*******
I have now been running for about three months now and I have greatly improved my time as well as how long I can run for. I have started running outdoors, as opposed to a gym. I have been training hard, because I have just signed up for my first 5K race!

Happy November!!

Hey everyone! I can't believe it's been so long since I have written an entry! First I want to start by saying that Stephen is still smoke free!!!

Since it has been getting a lot cooler outside I have been able to exercise a little bit more. I have started running at least two miles a day and cutting back drastically on unhealthy meals as well as counting calories like a mad man! I have been using an app that simulates a zombie chase and it has made me enjoy exercising so much more! So far I have lost 5 pounds. I went to buy a pair of jeans on Thursday and I lost one pants size as well!

Also with Halloween just passing, I have a picture of both of the boys' costumes! Kayleb went as a train conductor and Riley went as Barney! We just got Riley back today after he spent a couple weeks in Oregon, he made it in safe even after Hurricane Sandy. He got to play with snow which is something we don't have here! Kayleb got to visit the train museum in the mall last week and he had a blast! He was running around and pressing all the buttons.

Well, I am off to go fingerpaint! I made some home made finger paints for the boys and we're about to get started!
Bye everyone!

Fall Walks and Day 3 Nicotine Free!

Well, today has been a pretty calming and relaxing day! Stephen and I woke up this morning and had out daily cup of coffee. I was able to get some sleep last night, for the first time in a week, without tossing and turning for hours at a time. We decided that we were going to open the windows during the day and I must say we couldn't have picked a better day. Stephen and I met up with Stephen's dad/my father-in-law and went down to Park Circle. A full walk around the park it .5 miles. We all ended up walking two miles and Stephen ran most of his. I can tell an improvement with him not smoking. He seems to have a lot more energy and decided today that he was done smoking for good. I guess when someone gets to that point is when they get really dedicated to quitting. I'm glad that he came to that on his own. I know everyone had been nagging him about it and he tried the first time, but I think this time HE wanted to do it.

I have been doing pretty well in school this past semester and I think I will be able to stick with the online classes. I didn't think I would be able to take them and keep up with them, but so far it's proven to be better for me. I'm able to focus more at the house and do my school work rather than have other distractions from other people.

Kayleb and Riley will be working on the letters E,F,G, and H this week! I will update everyone on how they have been doing with A-D and post some videos if I can get them to the correct size! Hope everyone has a good night!

Facts about quitting

I didn't post anything yesterday, because I couldn't really think of anything interesting to say. I've decided to write when I have some free time or have alot to say. Today happens to be one of those days. Stephen has been on a quest to quit smoking after 10 years. He started out last week with a box of the highest step nicotine patches and put the last one in the pack on Friday night. I am proud to say that as of yesterday at 2:00PM, Stephen has been cigarette and nicotine patch FREE!!!! 24 HOURS WITH NO NICOTINE!!!!! He's been using an app called Get Rich or Die Smoking and it has been helping him out a lot as well. We have saved so much money and have had a lot more energy! If anyone is reading this I ask for one thing: Please if you can leave a comment just telling Stephen good job. It doesn't matter if you read this and I don't know you, or if you're just close family. Any kind of support for him especially right now would be very much appreciated! I love you Stephen, and you're doing an AMAZING job!!
What's Going On With the Boys?
Kayleb and Riley have started on reading their ABC'S this week. They know most of the pictures on the flash cards and are learning new words every day! They are both able to speak sentences, and know basic manners like please and thank you. They went to the pool for probably the last time for this year. Kayleb went today and we had to leave because it was a little too chilly.Riley got to go to the park Thursday. He likes the slides the best, but didn't care too much for the tire swing. The other day Stephen and I walked in on Riley and Kayleb testing each other with the flash cards. When we have Riley over on another Sunday I will try and get a video of them doing it. They like to ham it up for the camera when they know you have it on, so we try to make sure we do it discreetly so they will just act like it's themselves alone. I will be posting some more pictures once I transfer them over to my computer. Happy Sunday everyone!!!

Cool App of the Day: Songza

I decided that I would do an app of the day since there are so many cool ones out there. The one that I want to talk about today is the Songza app. It's a music app that let's you pick from genres based on the time of day and what you could be doing at that time. I first came across this app on Autocowrecks. Upon trying it out, I decided that it's possibly the coolest music app out there.

An example of your Thursday afternoon choices.

After you choose what you're doing during that time frame, it will take you to a couple more choices and then you have three choices of what genre group you can listen to! Songza has no audio ads, and best of all it's free! You can even link it up to any social media network and will be able to show your friends what you're listening to.
Songza QR code for easy downloading.

Songza's cute little mascot.

A Little About Me

"Families are like fudge... mostly sweet with a few nuts." -Author Unknown

Hey Everyone! My name is Brittanie Kidwell. I am a stay at home mother of two handsome boys. I'm from Charleston, South Carolina and have lived here my entire life. I am married to a wonderful man and couldn't be happier. I am a 90's baby so alot of things I will post about will be about some cool things in the 90's that I remember. This is my first blog, so I'm not entirely sure where I will begin, but I do know this will probably be alot of random thoughts, reviews, recommendations, and a few complaints. I like cooking and finding new recipies. I am also in crafts and like finding new ideas to do with my boys.
